Trombone Quartets

  • Beethoven, Ludwig Van (Hanson)

    Heavens Are Telling, The (Hanson)

Romantic. Also known in English translation as "The Glory of God" (original German is 'Die Ehres Gottes aus der Natur'). This work is a dramatic hymn composed by Beethoven and originally intended for solo voice and piano. Later arranged by the composer for men's chorus. The song's lyrics are by Gellert and are a majestic description of nature's declarations of the glory of God. Dr. Hanson's transcription is true to the score and has a wonderful timbre to it. The music is dramatic, bold yet noble in quality. Tenor and bass blefs for modertately advanced players. Range goes to a high C (C5) to low B (B1). Score & parts.

Note: This work has, in some traditions, assumed somewhat of a Christmas role. It was a featured selection on the 1964 recording The Glorious Sound of Christmas recorded by the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy along with the Temple University Choir. -cdp
