20th Century. American composer Deon Nielsen Price wrote this work in 1985 while she was vacationing at Big Sur on California's rugged coast. Lilting triplets and bi-chordal harmonies portray the playfulness of sea otters on the boulders near the beach; a lyrical melody meanders across tall chords based on quintal harmonies which suggest stately redwoods; sharp, widely spaced or cascading dissonances paint tonally the mountainous crags which reach from sea to the sky.
