The performers are encouraged to state the opening theme with grace and elegance, and then to carefully observe the 'evolution' of the tempo marking that follow" (the Composer). Theme is from Grieg's "Norwegian Dance" op.35/2 and is followed by nine variations, the Theme restated and then a Coda. Variation VI composed for Alto Flute if one is easily available to theFlutist.
