Narrator tells the Japanese folk-tale of the crane, saved by a woodcutter, who turns mortal and becomes his wife. The husband later is overcome by vanityand greed, which then turns her back into a crane and she flies away from him forever. Intricate arrangement with some aleatoric sections that act as vamp.
