21st Century (2017). Senchuk considers a familial region of the Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine with four scenes of village life. An opening solo passage imitates the folk music of Richka. A celebratory dance-like movement captures the spirit of local weddings, which can often span three days. The third movement contemplates the role of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, central to the village, in combination with a memorial hymn for his just-passed grandmother. Senchuk ends the visit with an acceleratingdance, the Arkan. Portraits of Richka was premiered at the 2017 NFA Convention. -the publisher
