Composed in 200, String Quartet No. 1 was funded by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, distributed by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County, as part of a community outreach project. The quartet contains moments of drama, beauty, virtuosity, and playfulness. It is in three movements with an extended introduction. I. Andante con poco rubato Alla Breve (Vivace); II.
