20th Century. Prelude makes use of rich chords and interweaving lyrical melodic lines passed between the trumpet and piano. Allegro alternates between a lively syncopated melody and smooth flowing longer phrases at the same tempo. Sixteenth note ascending chromatic runs are slurred. Final Allegro (quarter note = 152) features a driving, syncopated motive in the upper register and continues to an exciting finish. Range (on Bb part) is from Bb below the staff to high B above.
