Movere was composed for Sarah Stout Miller, an award-winning euphonium and trombone artist-teacher in the United States. Inspired by forward motion, Movere features contrasting sections meant to play with the notion of continuous movement with the occasional pause to suspend time. The piece alternates between slow and fast sections, each with chromatic, sinuous melodies and a distinct character. Dramatic elements include sudden changes in dynamics, articulations, meter, and tempos. Movere speaks to the euphonium's innate lyrical and technical prowess. With its range (low F to high B-flat), this solo would work well for a younger player wishing to perform unaccompanied music that departs from the standard solo works in the canon. Movere was premiered in April 2018 at the Northwest Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference. -the publisher
