20th Century (1937). Perhaps one of the greatest works ever composed for the modern concert band, Lincolnshire Posy was made famous via the Eastman Wind Ensemble's classic recording in the 1960's under the baton of Frederick Fennell. Set in six movements, each a transcription of a folk song recorded by Grainger on his tours of the Lincolnshire region of England in the early 20th Century. Grainger's transcriptions reflect the way he heard the songs sung by native Lincolnshire singers, and are not simple four-square renditions. His adherence to the original performances gives these movements their magical, quirky quality. The six movements are entitled Lisbon; Harkstow Grange; Rufford Park Poachers; The Brisk Young Sailor; Lord Melbourne; and The Lost Lady Found. This is the original edition, published by G. Schirmer mid century. A revised edition with error corrections exists as out item numbers 137744 (score & parts) and 031940 (full score). -cdp
