De Cartes et d'Estampes [C flute, G flute, bass flute]
21st Century (2017). The set of five unconnected pieces was inspired by the talents of Trio d'Argent, to whom the work is dedicated. A challenging cycle, De cartes de d'estampes uses tight rhythmic interplay and constantly changing time signatures to impart its imagery. The title is taken from Charles Baudelaire, "To a child who is fond of maps and engravings, the world equals his desire and expectations." The composer suggests that piano improvisation might be suitable between the movements.
