San Gabriel was commissioned in 2015 by Professor Ray Conklin for the Slide Advantage Trombone Choir of Murray State University. The title refers to the San Gabriel River which is a popular recreational water vessel that runs through the city of Georgetown, Texas. It's a popular location for fishing, boating and swimming. The music captures various moods of the river most notably the calm placid scenes accompanied by lively recreational events (such as swimming and boating.) Although the music features an upbeat rhythmic passage in the middle, thus implying water rapids, the river has only moderate rapid sites. Overall, the San Gabriel River is a beautiful river that attracts numerous tourists to the central Texas region. Score & parts. -the publisher
