Sonata Pian' e Forte, from Sacrae Symphoniae (1597), Ch.175 (Marcellus)
Renaissance. An original antiphonal work, notable for its use of dynamics, here transcribed for 6 tenors and 2 basses (or 7 & 1) in two 4-part choirs. Transposed down a 4th from the original. Rhythmic values have been halved from the original (e.g. opening figure is dotted half-quarter instead of dotted whole-half). Clefs are TTBB-TBBB. Newly revised 2017 edition corrects errors found in previous printings. -cdp
