Grand March, from Tannhauser (Jostlein) [343.01 w/percussion]
Romantic. Richard Wagner wrote his great opera Tannhauser in 1845. The famous Grand March occurs in Act II, Scene 4, as Elizabeth and Landgrave watch guests arrive for the Sangerkrieg (Song Contest). The Grand March, also known as the Entrance of the Guests, features a fanfare with choral-style writing. It has been arranged for an 11-part brass ensemble with timpani and percussion by Thomas Jostlein. Instrumentation is for: 3 C trumpets, 4 horns, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani & percussion.
