Rhosymedre, Prelude on the Hymn Tune (Haynor) [211.01]
Beautiful Welsh chorale prelude attributed to Ralph Vaughan Williams due to his harmonization of the tune in his popular organ work Preludes on Welsh Hymn Tunes. While the Prelude is an original work, the hymn tune melody that it is based upon was written much earlier, in the 19th Century, by John David Edwards. Edwards was an Anglican priest and served as the vicar of the village church in the town of Rhosymedre, Wales in the western United Kingdom. He named the tune after the town. It's a beautiful work that works quite well for brass. Score & parts. -cdp
