American Patriotic. 19th Century (1896). The official march of the United States of America. Arguably John Phillip Sousa's most famous march here transcribed for brass quintet. This unique arrangement disperses the melodic material throughout the ensemble, especially to the second trumpet. The piccolo trumpet of course covers the famous "piccolo" counter melody, but also functions as more of a supportive timbral role, weaving in out of the melody and picking up off-beats and other accompanimental figures. First trumpet plays Bb piccolo trumpet. Second trumpet plays Bb trumpet and flugelhorn. Trombone occasionally plays in tenor clef. -pc
