French composer. 1864-1955 studied with Dubois, Massenet, and Cesar Franck. Andante et allegro is reflective of the music and poetry which characterizes Ropartz style of composition. It has become both a highly regarded and popular work for cornet or trumpet because of its hymn-like, almost religious evocations and fanfare-ish display of technical virtuosity. It is a delightful work which represents a late-Romantic French style similar to that of Franck, d'Indy, and Charbrier. Duration 5:00 minutes.David R. Hickman editor. -pc
