This 21st Century concerto was written for Roger Webster of the Black Dyke Band. As it's title implies, this work aims to capture the spirit of optimistic vision which affected the British psyche at the end of the Second World War. The outer movements are energetic and brisk requiring virtuosic playing in an heroic style. The center movement is a cadenza to be played off-stage where the soloist is surrounded and supported by an additional group of fanfare players. Straight mute and "tin" mute required. Extensive technical skills, flutter tonguing, alternate fingering passages. Range from low F# below the staff to high D above. -pc
