Like a well-known trumpet piece of Giuseppe Torelli, Mudge's work is less a "trumpet concerto" than a "concerto with trumpet." Its instrumentation is more closely related to the concerto grosso than to the solo concerto. The form is not related to the (Italian) concerto, but rather consists of a French overture in two parts with a following movement. This scheme was popular in England around the middle of the 18th century. - publisher.
