First movement of this concerto is an allegro marziale and requires good control of the upper register, endurance and comfort in playing disjunct melodic phrases. Second movement is marked largamente, requires a harmon mute, and allows the performer extensive expressive and creative opportunities via rubato sections, improvisation and some indeterminate (chance) material. A large portion of this middle movement is unmetered. Third movement is an allegro con brio in 12/8 that brings this challenging work to an exciting conclusion. Range is from B below the staff to high C above the staff.
