20th Century. French composer. For trumpet in C (Bb part also included) and organ or piano. A unique set of variations on Salve Regina encompassing a variety of moods. After a brief introduction, the opening "ground bass" is played by the organ against the first variation, a flowing melody in the trumpet. Other unique features of this work are the intermittent lively trumpet cadenzas atop sustained tonic or open intervales in the organ/piano. Many creative expressive opportunities for the soloist as well as a few flashy technical variations. Range is moderate for an advanced work, but does reach to high B (on C trumpet) above the staff towards the end of the work.
