20th Century (1996). Triad by Jim Pugh is a work in a contemporary style for brass trio (trumpet, horn and trombone or bass trombone) commissioned in 1996 by the Areopagitica Brass Trio. The work for advanced performers is 5 minutes in length and has five slow sections and three fast sections alternating throughout. Pugh uses dissonance and unison as a way of adding and releasing tension throughout the work. Pugh writes that this work is his most personal composition and deals with his search as an adopted child for his birth mother. The work begins "in-utero" and through all of the complexities of relationships between the child and others in his life. Parts are supplied for C & B-flat trumpet, horn and trombone. This 5-minute work is written for very advanced performers. -the publisher
