1 Yellow brass bells are generally thought to have better carrying power and clarity of tone. Conversely, rose brass (aka goldbrass) bells are known for their warmth of sound up close and slightly more edgy sound at high dynamic levels. None of this is proven, and all remains subject to sometimes intense argument among players. The differences are extremely subtle and require a high level of playing skill to notice. Younger, intermediate level players will almost certainly see no effect.
*Goldbrass (or Gold Brass) is a brass alloy with a higher copper content than traditional yellow brass. It gives the brass a more golden color. King refers to this alloy also as "bronze brass." No gold, tin or bronze is used in the alloy.
