Have fun with a bit of theater in your next recital! This composition for Solo Tenor or Bass Trombone Unaccompanied was inspired by the great debates of the 1947 U.S. presidential race and the moving speeches of the candidates, Harry Truman and Thomas Dewey. Campaign Promises was written that same year while the composer, John Kiplinger, was a composition student at The New England Conservatory of Music. The piece was premiered by trombonist Millard Neiger at a New Music Festival presented by The Royal Conservatory of Music in the spring of 1948 winning the cheers and ovations of all those in attendance.
