Cavalleria Rusticana, Selections from (Gionanidis) [423.01 & percussion]
Mascagni's opera Cavalleria Rusticana is considered one of the great masterpieces of the repertoire. It was first premiered in 1893 and since, has become one of the most popular operas. Often it is paired with Pagliacci by Leoncavallo in a so-called Cav/Pag double bill. Vikentios Gionanidis has arranged a 12-minute selection from the opera for 10-part brass ensemble with timpani & percussion suitable for advanced performers. Instrumentation is 423.01 - 4 C trumpets (2 double piccolo; 1 double flugelhorn), 2 horns, TTB trombones, tuba; plus timpani, marimba and percussion.
