20th Century (1960). Allen Ostrander's Sonata in G minor was one of the very first compositions written specifically for the modern bass trombone - the large bore valved instrument developed by the composer and other contemporary players. This work was originally published as an unaccompanied solo with the option of a piano accompaniment, available only as a rental from the publisher. It is not known today why this was the case. We have gone back to the archives and, as of August 2021, this work now includes the piano part in the set. The solo and piano parts, still in the composer's hand manuscript, have been newly marked with rehearsal numbers and letters to help coordinate rehearsals. -the publisher
