Bugler's Dream, from Charge! [Olympic Fanfare] [443.01 w/timpani & percussion]
Bugler's Dream is a movement from a larger work entitled Charge!. This movement was selected by the ABC television network in 1968 as the theme for their exclusive coverage of the Olympic Games that year. Since then it has been universally identified as the Olympic Theme, regardless of other specially commissioned works. This is the classic work that begins with tympani and is followed by high trumpets. The B section is up-tempo and much lower in tessitura, and acts a a nice contrast. Each section is rather short. The version of the opening fanfare that is heard on TV has often been re-arranged and lengthened, and is sometimes followed by the B theme, recapped again with the A theme. In this, the original, the B theme is followed by a C theme, and then four more distinct sections, D through G. For 4 trumpets, 4 horns, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani & percussion. Score & parts. -cdp
