20th century (1986). American composer. Originally written for three C trumpets and three trombones, Toccata Fanfares may be performed by a chamber ensemble of six or a flexible brass choir with multiple doublings of each part so long as balance is maintained among the parts. Multiple parts make it possible to perform Toccata Fanfares with a standard brass quintet plus an additional trumpet or with a brass choir drawn from a wind ensemble, band, or orchestra. Movements may be performed individuallyor in sets of three or four fanfares played as a suite. Score & parts. - publisher
