Aria, from Goldberg Variations, BWV.988 (Chiang) [211.01]
Baroque. The Goldberg Variations is arguably one of the greatest works of art in Western culture. A true work of genius that was first published in 1741 for harpsichord. Aria, a Sarabande about 5 minutes in length in 3/4 is the very first movement of the30 variation work and is heavily ornamented. Justin Chiang has doubled the time to 6/4 and written out all of the ornaments, making the performance possibilities much more practical for most brass quintet performers. This work is appropriate for advancedperformers. Instrumentation is standard 211.01 brass quintet (2 trumpets, horn, trombone, tuba/bass trombone). Trumpets are in C. Score & parts. -the publisher
