Pomp & Circumstance March No 1, op 39, no 1 (Slechta) [211.01]
20th Century. This arrangement of the popular graduation processional by Gary Slechta begins with a 6 measure fanfare that leads to a straightforward presentation of the main theme in Bb major (concert key) with simple accompaniment. Melody begins in the first trumpet and is briefly handed to the 2nd trumpet and then the horn/trombone in unison. An optional section in Eb major (concert key) is included that allows the trumpets some time to rest while the trombone carries the main theme over a countermelody in the tuba part. French horn joins in to create a trio and eventually full ensemble returns to bring us back to the Bb major section. Score & parts. -pc
