Canon in Hypodiapason, from Art of the Fugue (Hornek) [210.11 or 211.01]
Baroque. This work is part of Bach's final opus, the "Art of the Fugue," a collection of Contrapuncti and Canons. This movement is correctly entitled "Canon in Hypodiapason - Canon alla Ottava" (BWV 1080, Nr 15). (Note: this publication indicates the title as "Contrapunctus 15." This we believe to be an error. This is a transcription of one of the Canons from Art of the Fugue, but it is not traditionally considered to be one of the 16 numbered Contrapuncti.) This fugue was originally written in 4-part SATB open score form and is now believed to have been intended for performance on the harpsichord. The trombone part is labeled for euphonium, but is absolutely performable upon trombone. As performed by the Harmonic Brass of Munich, Germany. Score & parts. -cdp
