Contrapunctus 9, from Art of the Fugue, BWV.1080 (Glasel) [211.01]
Baroque. Ninth movement (BWV 1080, Nr 9) of Bach's final opus, subtitled "Alla Duodecima." Originally written in 4-part SATB open score form, and now believed to have been intended for performance on the harpsichord. Contrapunctus IX is an example of a4-part double fugue. This particular arrangement of "Contra Nine" is perhaps the most well known and oft performed of the 16 numbered Contrapuncti. Besides simply laying well for brass quintet, much 3-part texture and a low ending make this arrangement less taxing than most Bach transcriptions. Transcribed down a step from the original key of Dm into Cm. Score & parts. -cdp
