21st Century (2013). Lee Hyla's 1987 trio takes its title from a fresco by Giotto, which depicts Pope Innocent III dreaming of St. Francis literally holding up the Church. To capture the power of this imagery, Hyla amplifies the cello as protagonist, with percussion and piano at first offering commentary, then building into a heavily articulated rhythm. Dream of Innocent III is written in three sections, with the first two ending in extended cello solos. Lee Hyla's notes are available at the website of counter)induction, and a recording by cellist Rhonda Rider (the dedicatee) is available. For advanced performers. Dur.: 16' -the publisher
